Why buy a Burmese?
  • The Burmese breed is a medium sized cat with golden eyes and a short, flat glossy coat. They generally require little grooming other than daily petting. They are sometimes described as a brick in a silk glove. They are heavier than they look.
  • Burmese are quintessential cat companions: playful, leaders in loving devotion, they will stick by your side as if they were Velcro. Burmese are super smart and love to play – especially when you are involved in the game. They love being with people and are very good with children. However, if you spend most of your time away from home, this breed may not be for you.
  • Like the Siamese, Burmese can be vocal, but usually only when something is dangerously wrong, like empty food dishes! They will repeat their complaint until you take care of the catastrophe. When speaking to their favourite humans, they have a variety of sweet expressive meows at their command, which they use liberally to get their thoughts across.
  • Burmese can be determined cats. Once they have started on a course of action – such as climbing on to your lap or diving into your plate – you might as well give in and accept the inevitable. Your Burmese friend will outlast you in any battle of wills.
  • They have no common sense which is why they should never be allowed outside, except for a purposely built enclosure preferably one built for Houdini. They can also be taught to walk on a cat harness & lead but do prefer to be indoors with you.
What Colours?

Burmese come in ten recognised colours: brown (this is the very dark brown of the original Burmese); blue (best described as dark silvery grey); chocolate (milk coffee colour with slightly darker face and ears); lilac (pale dove grey, with a pinkish undertone); red (sometimes described as the colour of golden sand or tangerine); cream (powdered apricot); brown tortie (brown with an intermingling of red and cream); blue tortie (blue with an intermingling of cream); chocolate tortie (chocolate with an intermingling of red and cream); and lilac tortie (lilac with an intermingling of cream). Whatever the colour they all have the classic Burmese nature.
